A Fun Time in Okinawa —Owain Mckimm Okinawa is a chain of small islands that lies just south of Japan's four main islands. It offers fine weather all year, beautiful nature, and a lively culture. Little wonder, then, that it's a favorite vacation spot for Japanese and foreigners alike. Summer is a good season to visit Okinawa. The sea is as warm as bathwater and as clear as glass. You can see colorful coral reefs and, if you're really brave, swim with hammerhead sharks. Even if you're not a strong swimmer, you can still take part in the excitement. Just visit the Churaumi Aquarium. It has a huge sea tank that contains all sorts of interesting sea creatures, including 8.5-meter-long whale sharks. When you've had enough of water-related activities, you can experience other features of Okinawa's nature. For example, a tour of Iriomote National Park lets you see one of the finest evergreen forests in Japan. If you're lucky, you might even spot an Iriomote wildcat. This animal doesn't exist anywhere else in the world! |
