CNY Market Street-The Place to Be |
S: | So, this is your first Chinese New Year in Asia, right? |
A: | Yeah! But I'm going to Bali for our week off. I guess I'll miss most of the excitement. |
S: | You can still get into the holiday spirit in the weeks beforehand. Have you heard of Dihua Street? |
A: | I think I went there once to buy some fabric. |
S: | Yep, that's the place. A few weeks before Chinese New Year, it'll turn into one giant street market full of edible Chinese New Year goodies that people snap up by the bagful. |
A: | Seems a bit like a Christmas market back home. Are there crafts, too? |
S: | It's mostly traditional Lunar New Year snacks and gifts. The vendors let you sample everything: nuts, candy, dried seafood, pastries, drinks . . . |
A: | Sounds like my kind of fun! I can buy snacks for my vacation. |
S: | I always get enough to squirrel away for months ahead! |
